Join Sam for another Signature Training that combines the foundations of mindfulness with training in compassion, using mindful awareness and a clear understanding of what compassion is and is not.

The first section of the training will guide students through an introduction to the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness from the Buddhist and Secular lens’. Students will learn to practice and teach Secular Mindfulness with the flavor for the history of the lineage of the Buddha. Not only will Sam begin with simple mindfulness practices, but will also delve more deeply into why mindfulness is considered to be the “first psychology” and how with a dedication to practice, we begin to see more clearly what, why and how the mind is steering us in life. Through this clear seeing, we gain the agency to choose what our heart/minds are practicing. We become more grounded, calm and able to regulate our emotions in difficult times.

The second half of the training will focus on training in Compassion through G.R.A.C.E, which is an acronym for a set of tools that support us in bringing true compassion, a steadfast compassion and care, that can meet the suffering, ours and that of others, without empathetic distress (commonly mis-labeled “Compassion Burn Out”) You will learn that Compassion actually has no end, no burn out. We first must understand empathy, what it is and how to work with this skillfully without becoming lost in suffering and pain. How do we presence the injustices of the world? How do we presence our friends, family, yoga students, ourselves, without becoming exhausted or needing to “fix”? Rooted in mindfulness training, G.R.A.C.E will lead the way to an open, caring and stable heart.

Last but not least, this training will include orienting towards mindful speech, action and ethics. May we all take our seats with presence, compassion and wisdom, in ways that lead to less suffering for all living beings.

TESTIMONIAL

"This module was on a different level. I'm still in awe. The weekly zoom calls were enlightening and engaging. The vimeo recordings reflect Sam's passion on this subject which makes them sooooo good! Once you start watching you can't stop. On the zoom calls it was as if everyone waited all week to participate. The sharing was so thoughtful and included everyone! I start every morning and end everyday thinking about the topics covered in this module. This learning was a gift!"- Ellyn Gaughan

"Sam is knowledgeable, attracts her students, believes in them, and connects very well with them. She has excellent and superb leadership attributes. She is articulate, thinks strategically and critically, aware of scientific research and shares findings and perspectives as applicable. Her teachings resonate deeply. With her wisdom, insight, and teaching skills, now I am in a much better position to engage others in yoga practice, I know how to answer questions especially when questions and inquiries are raised by Healthcare professionals and scientists. Her words continue to echo in my practice and life." - Miriam Marshwood

"Sam is able to really hold space for others. This Mindfulness & GRACE training has given the term mindfulness a much, much deeper meaning. One of the biggest learnings for me was how to better present people's emotions, especially sadness, and anger. I also loved how Sam stressed the importance of our own values and how we walk through life in line with what we teach. I feel this module could have gone on for months - I was so sad when it was over." - Svenja Blessner

“Introduction to Mindfulness was an amazing time! And totally not what I was ‘expecting’. Proof that an open and curious mind will open so many other opportunities. I just keep going back to the body. Thank you for this opportunity to discover and connect yet another piece to this lovely creation I’m working on. Thank you for being a beautiful role model/ mentor for me. We may not always know the impact we have on others but know that I carry a piece of you with me always.  You hold a safe space for me to be me and for that I am forever grateful. Even as I write this a little piece of me is healing." -- Kim Greenfield
